Dog Friendly Days Out For The Whole Family

dog friendly holiday

As an animal lover and owner of 4 beautiful dogs, I am often finding myself looking for days out or trips away that allow me to take my 4 beloved companions with me. The good news is that finding places to go with your four-legged companions has never been easier, as places like dog friendly pubs and cafes become a little less niche and a little more mainstream.

It’s a weird relationship really isn’t it. The way in which we establish relationships with an animal. Dogs are often referred to as "man's best friend" because of their loyalty, companionship, and ability to form deep emotional bonds with us. They have been domesticated for thousands of years, during which time they have developed a unique relationship with us, their owners. Dogs are known for their ability to understand human emotions, provide comfort, and even assist with tasks, from hunting and herding to modern roles like therapy and service animals. Their unconditional love and dependable nature make them trusted and beloved companions, which is why they hold the title of "man's best friend."

Exploring new experiences with your dog can be a great way to strengthen your bond and keep both of you active and engaged. Here are some fun ideas for activities you can enjoy together:

  1. Hiking and Nature Walks: Take your dog on hikes through parks, forests, or trails. It's a fantastic way to explore the outdoors, enjoy some exercise, and let your dog experience new scents and sights.
  2. Beach or Lake Trips: If your dog enjoys water, a trip to the beach or a nearby lake can be a lot of fun. Many dogs love swimming, playing fetch in the water, or just running along the shore.
  3. Dog-Friendly Camping: Spend a night or two under the stars with your dog. Camping offers a change of environment and plenty of opportunities for exploring new terrains together.
  4. Agility Training: Enrol in an agility course or set up one in your garden. It’s a great way to keep your dog physically active and mentally stimulated.
  5. Dog Sports: Consider trying out dog sports like flyball, frisbee, or dock diving. These sports are both fun and physically demanding, providing excellent exercise.
  6. Obedience or Trick Training: Teaching your dog new tricks or commands can be a fun challenge. It keeps their mind sharp and helps improve communication between you.
  7. Dog-Friendly Cafés or Pubs: Many places now welcome dogs, so why not take your canine companion along for a meal or a drink? It's a good way for them to socialise and for you to relax together.
  8. Road Trips: Plan a road trip with your dog to explore new places. Many hotels and accommodations are dog-friendly, so you can discover new towns and sights together.
  9. Photography Sessions: Capture moments with your dog by doing a photography session. Whether professional or just for fun, it's a great way to create lasting memories.
  10. Charity Walks or Events: Participate in charity walks or events that are dog friendly. It’s a great way to meet other dog lovers and contribute to a good cause.
