Half Term Activities in the West Midlands

What can I do in the Half Term in the Midlands? What to do with the Kids for Half Term? How can I keep the kids entertained at Half Term? Where’s good to go for Half Term? 

You can ask the question as many ways as you would like to but for me as a parent, the answer is always… HELP! I HAVE NO IDEA!

How many times can you call on Google for inspiration or ask Alexa for advice? The problem is always the same, keeping everyone entertained and happy but not spending a fortune in doing so!

We enjoy our home crafting days, which is always a winner or maybe even a movie marathon with the curtains closed on cold winter days and endless buckets of popcorn… but you do need to get them out of the house from time to time, right!

For me, February half term is always the hardest. The weather is usually cold and wet so anything too outdoorsy is usually a no for my two. There are always things to do locally, and if you were to search for “what to do in the Midlands” as I so often do, your search engine is likely to throw out some great local ideas. Usually, you would have nearby museums or places of local interest, which is always a great choice but often tried and tested over the years.

I have tried to think a little bit outside the box and look at some experiences to keep us entertained and in doing so, have uncovered some possibilities for the half term that don’t break the bank. So, if you’re based in the Midlands and your little ones or not so littles ones first words at half term are “I’m bored” then I have just the list for any budding animal enthusiast, wannabe superhero or trained escape artist!

If your children are like one of mine, then this Superhero Photoshoot Experience is the one for you.

Wannabe heroes can grapple and flex with a range of supplied props from boulders to girders, shields to chains all in front a realistic movie background including a death-defying skyscraper drop. Superhero music will also accompany the photoshoot to really make you feel on top of the world!

As my kids are a little older, this does allow us to look at some more immersive experiences such as escape rooms, aged from 8 upwards. A prison escape room offers a unique experience solving puzzles as you try and make your bid for freedom!

We are animal people! Going down the cuddly and furry route, we always love an animal encounter! With this Midlands-based experience you get to visit the zoo seeing animals from all over the world and they also offer the Hoo-Rassic World! A dinosaur world with moving dinosaurs! A real treat of a day out for all of the family!

Or if you aren’t afraid of the outdoors and embrace the cold at this time of year, you could try Trekking with Alpaca’s. A wonderful experience where you can meet, cuddle, walk and pet the Alpaca’s and what’s more, kids under 9 go free with any paying adult!

Finally, staying in and around the Midlands, a personal recommendation would also be The Bear Grylls Experience as it's absolutely wonderful. You and your little ones can choose to create your own adventure with a choice of Climbing, Shooting, Archery or Axe Throwing or two activities if you choose the Pass Plus option.

The West Midlands is teeming with activities to keep the kids entertained this half term! Some free, some tried and tested and some that require that little bit of “out the box” thinking!
