Weston Park in Shropshire is a grand stately home steeped in centuries of history, art, and landscape beauty. Surrounded by 1,000 acres of parkland masterfully designed by Capability Brown, this magnificent estate is more than just a pretty face—it's a living story of heritage, culture and country elegance.
The estate’s roots stretch as far back as the Domesday Book, once owned by Norman sheriff Rainald de Bailleuil. Over time, it passed through several noble families, including the de Westons and the Myttons, before coming into the hands of the Wilbrahams. In 1671, Lady Elizabeth Wilbraham commissioned the construction of the Weston Park house, and later, it entered the lineage of the Earls of Bradford through marriage.
In the 18th century, Weston Park was further elevated with the help of Sir Henry Bridgeman, who enlisted famed landscape gardener Capability Brown to reshape its grounds. Architect James Paine added timeless features like the Roman Bridge and the Temple of Diana, still admired today.
In 1986, the 7th Earl of Bradford generously gifted the estate to the nation. Since then, it has been run by the Weston Park Foundation, a charitable trust focused on preserving its legacy.
Today, Weston Park is a vibrant venue for a variety of events and activities. Its opulent house features art by Van Dyck and Gainsborough, as well as Chippendale furniture. From weddings and corporate events to seasonal festivals and family days out, the estate is buzzing year-round. It even played host to the G8 Summit retreat in 1998 and was the iconic home of V Festival from 1999 to 2017.
With a miniature railway, Granary Restaurant, and cosy holiday cottages, Weston Park continues to welcome visitors from near and far, offering something truly special for everyone.
