The Fan Dance is a legendary 24km endurance event that takes participants through the rugged and unforgiving terrain of the Brecon Beacons, following the exact route used in the UK Special Forces selection process. What sets this experience apart is not only the physical challenge of ascending Pen y Fan, the highest peak in southern Britain, but also the mental toughness required to face the return ascent up the infamous Jacob’s Ladder. It's a gruelling test of endurance, determination, and strategy.
What makes this event truly thrilling and exclusive is the added twist of "The Hunt." After the participants get a 20-minute head start, a pack of ‘Wolves’—eager hunters including the Directing Staff—are released to chase them down. Your mission: reach the finish line before the Wolves catch you. Those who succeed will earn the coveted Fan Dance Hunted Survivor medal, a symbol of resilience and triumph. If caught, the challenge doesn’t end; you can continue the course, aiming to recapture your armband from the Wolf and still earn a Hunted Finisher’s medal. The constant cat-and-mouse game with the Wolves adds a layer of adrenaline and suspense, ensuring this isn’t just any challenge—it’s a race for survival.
This extraordinary experience is a perfect gift for the adventurer in your life, making it one of the most unusual gifts for him or her. Whether for seasoned athletes or those seeking a truly unforgettable test, the Fan Dance delivers a heart-racing, high-stakes challenge that pushes both body and mind to the limit. For those who love adventurous activities, this is more than just an event—it’s an exclusive opportunity to prove your grit in one of the toughest endurance challenges around.
You'll be able to compete in one of the following categories...
Clean Fatigue – For participants seeking a lighter challenge, this category requires no additional weight but still demands carrying all mandatory kit. It’s ideal for those who want to focus on speed and stamina without the burden of a heavy load.
Load Bearing – This category challenges participants to carry a minimum of 35 lbs throughout the course, excluding food and fluids. It's designed for those looking to experience the ultimate test of physical endurance, simulating the weight carried in UKSF military exercises.
