Manchester is a city that has rocked the world, producing some of the most iconic bands in music history. From The Smiths to Oasis, Joy Division to The Stone Roses, and even modern giants like The 1975, its influence is undeniable. The Manchester Music Tour is your backstage pass to the heart of this legendary music scene, where you can "hang the DJ" and celebrate the city's rich musical history.
Led by an expert guide who knows the Manchester music scene inside and out, this tour takes you on a journey through the city’s musical past. Lasting around 1 ¾ hours and covering two miles, you'll visit key sites from musicians like The Smiths, Oasis, New Order, Joy Division, and more.
Starting in the Northern Quarter, a vibrant area known for its street art, indie boutiques, and music venues, you'll feel the pulse of the city’s creative spirit. Pass by the site of the legendary Hacienda nightclub, once the "house of fun" for the post-punk and acid house movements. You'll also visit the Free Trade Hall, where Bob Dylan famously told the world, "It’s all over now, baby blue," as he went electric in 1966.
Other highlights include a stop at the former home of Factory Records, the powerhouse label behind Joy Division, New Order, and Happy Mondays. You’ll stand at the Salford Lads Club, immortalised on The Smiths’ The Queen Is Dead album cover, and visit the boardwalk where the Gallagher brothers of Oasis posed during their rise to fame. Fans of The 1975 will be excited to know that the tour celebrates not only the city’s past, but also its modern-day chart-toppers.
Throughout the tour, you’ll be treated to behind the scenes stories, iconic lyrics, and fascinating trivia. Discover how the punk and post punk scenes kicked off, the rise of the Madchester rave movement, and how the city’s musical magic continues to influence artists today.
