Escape to the breathtaking Canonteign Falls, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Devon, where natural beauty and serenity await. This award winning private estate is home to one of England’s tallest waterfalls, set within 90 acres of parkland and ancient woodland. During your visit, you’ll have the chance to explore cascading waterfalls, peaceful lakes, and tranquil streams, offering a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.
Start your journey by climbing the 90 original Victorian steps that lead you through the enchanting fern garden. Nestled in a unique microclimate between dramatic cliffs, this lush garden offers a peaceful escape. At the top, the panoramic views are simply awe-inspiring as you gaze at the water plunging an incredible 70 metres into the woodland below.
After soaking in the stunning views, follow the winding path down to the serene Lily Lake, where you’ll be surrounded by a picturesque butterfly meadow, before continuing on to the Lower Lakes. Here, you can marvel at the newest addition to the estate: a Jurassic limestone-paved labyrinth, adding an extra touch of wonder to your visit.
This seasonal experience is open to all ages, and perfect for groups of two to six people, with dogs welcome indoors and outdoors on short leads. Allow around three hours for your visit, or stay all day to soak in the beauty of this breathtaking destination. Whilst none the walks are suitable for wheelchair users, a visit to Canonteign Falls still promises awe, relaxation, and unforgettable memories for all.
Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning for another enchanting experience, Canonteign Falls offers a truly unforgettable escape.
Please allow around 3 hours for your visit, however, you are welcome to stay all day should you wish to.
Please note: Canonteign Falls it is a natural environment and parts of the walks are steep and/or have naturally exposed tree roots.
None of the walks are suitable for wheelchair users.
The route up to Lady Exmouth Waterfalls is very steep at certain points (particularly the 90 Victorian Steps) and requires a certain level of fitness.
The Lily Lake and Lower lakes offer a more gentle, alternative walk for those that don't feel they can walk up to the top of the waterfall.
The base of Clampitt Falls and the base of Lady Exmouth waterfalls can be reached before it gets too steep.
